Disclaimer: I own nothing pertaining to Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon and I praise Naoko Takeuchi for creating the world in which we live in. Profound, eh?
She was always able to swipe away at the mist until everything around her was vibrant and cleansed. The ability to tuck away the memories deep inside herself had paid off in previous parts of her life, when slight misery would strike. But lately, some things had become too great, too overwhelming to disappear.
Perhaps she wasn't cut out for this, a thought that always plagued her mind. Sometimes the stress would become overwhelming and it was all she could do to not collapse on the city streets. A choking feeling would immerse her entire body in convulsions, the civilians around her not donating a single glance.
Shouldn't she be thankful? Surely this was a gift from the gods, the chance to right all the wrongs in the world. But why was it her body, her soul that encased such a power? Sometimes she thought that there was a mistake; that she wasn't meant to be this person.
No, she definitely didn't think this was her role. If it were, then why wasn't she happy? Why did she often wear a frown? Why were there so many other more qualified individuals who had the answers to her infinite number of questions?
There were times when she wished she'd be stripped of her title. The faded guilt of failed battles and wounded friends would lessen her worries.
"Usagi-chan!"
Glancing up from her frantic stride, she saw the glowing faces of her friends. Suddenly, a pang of regret developed in her lower abdomen.
How could she be so foolish? Of course this was her life, her destiny. These were her friends, her protectors. Without them she would surely be lost.
A calming smile set across her frail face as she walked towards the owners of her heartstrings. Her hair wrapped around her torso as her worries blew along with the tendrils. The four girls were always meant to be soldiers. These girls, these girls were her haven. They provided each other with strength and wisdom, and she belonged at their side.
This was her life, and she now realized, she never truly denied it. Maybe she herself wasn't strong enough to save everyone, but with her guardians at her side, there was nothing she could doubt herself in. If she were to ever drown in fear, she knew her comrades would be right there, pulling her out of the crashing waves.
It would be alright, because they were here. And together, all was possible.
