A/N: Sometimes I will assign myself a prompt or two (sometimes three, but rarely) to a story. It'll be obvious, don't worry. I just figured I'd tell you that on my first one with a prompt. Prompt fic's are normally written when I need an idea. Which is a lot more common lately as my Silmarillion one-shot total surpasses 100. (yay me!)

Prompts: 'Guardian Angel' and 'Cold'

It had been hours now. Estel had had hope for a rescue at first, but now he wasn't waiting for someone to come. He just wanted to survive the night so he could find his way home in the light of day. A stick cracked from somewhere nearby and Estel's head jerked around to face the direction from where the sound had come.

"Wh-wh-who's th-th-there?" He stuttered, the cold night air making his teeth chatter. Another stick cracked and Estel's eyes widened in terror as a hooded figure entered the clearing.

He stood and made to run, but the stranger's gentle voice stopped him in his tracks. "Peace mellon. I won't harm you."

Estel brought his arms around his body and shivered. The strange man took off his cloak and wrapped Estel in it. "Where do you hail from?" He asked, picking Estel up and holding him close to warm him.

"Rivendell." Estel murmured, snuggling against the stranger.

With his eyes tightly closed, he did not see the man's face fill with surprise, then a slight smile.

"Well then, let's get you home. Lord Elrond will be worried about you." Estel nodded in agreement, too tired and groggy to realize exactly what the man had said.

"Sleep little one. I'll watch over you." Too fatigued to argue (not that he would've wanted to) Estel shifted in the man's protecting embrace.

"Are you my angel?" The man chuckled.

"If that's the way you want to see it, then yes."

"What's your name?" Estel peeled his eyes open and stared at the man.

"If you promise not to tell anyone.." Estel nodded, "You may call me Maglor."

"Maglor..." Estel nodded again, closed his eyes and swiftly drifted off.

When he awoke, he was home again, No one in Rivendell had seen who brought Estel home and no matter how many times he was asked or what he was promised, he would only say; "He was nice. He gave me his cloak and it smelled like the sea."

A/N: This didn't turn out quite as good as I had imagined when I first started writing it, but whatever. It's crap and I know it is. Beats me why I'm publishing it *shrugs* but I am.

(this was originally entitled 'Guardian Angel' but that was too...boring and obvious for me, so I changed it to go along with Estel's comment about Maglor's cloak: "...it smelled like the sea.")
