Such a simple thing. It was mundane, yet vital.
He spun the metal part between his fingers. It was dull and by no means unique, but it played its role.
He placed it on the side of the car's Alternator and cranked it into place. It was the final piece, the tiny gear, but without it she wouldn't run.
Sam rose to his feet, dirt smeared on his hands and cheeks, and wiped at his eyes. He wouldn't let her die. He couldn't afford to lose her too.
Dean was gone. His vital piece was missing, too. He cried silently.
