Mr. Monk and the Secret
After Gus, Shawn, and his new fiancée, Juliet had caught up to the thief and had him arrested, they recovered Shawn's great grandma, Gamma's ring. Shawn slipped it onto Juliet's finger as they walked back into the crime scene.
As it so happened, the trio came face to face with none other than Adrian Monk, the strange detective that they had earlier seen alphabetizing the pantry.
Shawn decided that he should prove his "psychicness" to this bizarre man. "Hello, my name is Shawn Spencer, and this is my partner, Clarence Heimlichmaneuver," he said as he gestured to Gus.
"The spirits are telling me that you have OCD." "Hello, Natalie, did you hear about Pluto?" Gus said to Monk's assistant. Natalie looked taken-aback. Meanwhile, Mr. Monk, apparently confused by what Gus had said, suddenly spoke. "What spirits?" he asked. Shawn responded, "I'm a psychic, Adrian Monk."
Instead of being surprised that Shawn knew his name, Mr. Monk said, "You're a fake. And I can prove it."
At this, Shawn, Gus and Juliet cringed. Gus and Juliet looked around to make sure that no one else had heard that. Luckily, no one did. Shawn hissed, "How did you find out?"
"It's simple," Monk said. "I heard the chief tell you my name earlier." "And," Natalie added, "He obviously has OCD."
Shawn said, "OK, now that you know you can't tell anyone else. Let's shake hands on it." "I don't really shake hands…" Mr. Monk replied.
"That's ok, I guess. Just promise. And hey, I can say 'I promise' in Dutch! Do you want to hear? It's 'Ik ben een schildpad.'" "You just said you were a turtle," Gus amended with a hint of annoyance.
"Just promise!"
Mr. Monk responded, "Yes. I promise." And with that, the deal was made.
