A Nice Attempt

It was a nice attempt. A nice attempt, but not a real relationship.
That's what you called it. I can't believe you called it that. I can't believe you were that callous about what we had.
You were suppose to be a nice girl who didn't end relationships (it was a relationship, not a "nice attempt") like that.
Maybe it didn't have the best beginning: You came crying to me saying that Archie had chosen Veronica. I said some comforting words (I can't remember exactly what those words were. You kissed me on the cheek. I ended up blushing.
Like I said, maybe it didn't have the best beginnings, but it was a relationship, not a "nice attempt".
We ended up sharing a lot of things after that: feelings, thoughts, food. And you know that I don't share my food with just anyone.
Almost a year and a half past. It looked like we were going to be a more or less permanent thing. I thought it was going to be more, but it turned out to be less.
Then one day you said Archie called you "to talk about something". I assumed that you were going to talk to him to put both of your feelings for each other to rest. I assumed that I was now the #1 in your heart after almost a year and a half.
I was wrong.
Instead you came back and called what we had "a nice attempt, but not a real relationship".
You said that your "real" relationship was with Archie and would always be with Archie.
Just like that I was a "nice attempt", but not a real boyfriend.
It hurt me like nothing else. That's the only way I can put it into words: It hurts.
And yet you had the nerve to invite me to your wedding with Archie.
You don't get it, do you?
Jughead and Veronica watched the happy Archie and Betty get rive thrown at them as they piled into their limo:
"She said it was a 'nice attempt', Veronica"
"Strange Jughead. He said the exactly same thing to me."
