The Little Orange That Could
You've all heard of that little engine, but it's time the real hero got attention.
One day an orange named George was going to be made into juice. He was SO excited! Tons of big oranges traveled up the hill to the juicer's house every week. Usually, the little oranges would travel to the juicer's house in groups so none would get lost or distracted along the way. But George was finally big enough to go alone. "YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP!" he shouted to the whole tree of oranges. His friend Joe helped him off his branch. "Bye, Joe!" said George happily. "I'm going to miss ya, George," said Joe, "I can't wait until we're juice together!" You see, the new juicer, Pablo, was an orange whisperer. If George asked him to, he would put him in the same juice carton as Joe and his parents! Right before he left, his mom lent him her cell phone. Then, he was off. George skipped and sang happy songs. Then, he finally got to the hill. He saw a strange red figure skipping towards him, basket in hand. He ran up to it, and it was Little Red Riding Hood! "HEY!" George shouted, "This is MY story! Get to your grandma before the wolf gets you!" "All righty then, but I don't wanna! So we have to make a deal. How about YOU deliver this basket and I never bother you again, but I get to stay until you're back? I wanna pick some daisies." "Sounds good," George replied. So, he went to Little Red Riding Hood's grandmother's house. They went through the whole, "My, how big teeth you have, grandma," thing and soon enough George was back to the hill. Little Red Riding Hood gave him a flower and then she was going back home. "My, how steep this hill is," said George. He tried to roll up it many times and failed. He pulled out his mom's cell phone and then dialed his home phone number. "Hello, Georgy!" said his cheerful mother, "What's wrong?" "Mommy, I can't get up the hill! I don't know what to do!" cried George. "OH Honey!" said his mother sadly, "I know that if you believe in yourself, you can get up the hill! I want you to say, 'I think I can.' Say it now, Georgy." And he did. They talked a little more, mostly about Little Red Riding Hood, and then they hung up. George started up the hill, thinking, I think I can, I think I can, I think I can, I think I can… George was already halfway up the hill! I think I can, I think I can, I think I can…. I KNOW I can! George made it to the top! Happy as ever, George rolled very fast to Pablo's house. "Hello, little orange!" said Pablo. "Hey! I am George! I would like to be made into juice, but in the same carton as my parents and my best friend Joe!" "EASY!" shouted Pablo, "It will be done!" And everyone was made into juice and they lived happily ever after!
