Sakura Haruno was not used to receiving flowers.
She had resigned herself to spinsterhood because the boy she'd loved since childhood had abandoned her while the boy she hoped to love had forgotten her. There was nobody who could be good enough for her in the village so that was that. As the apprentice of the Hokage and touted as the most beautiful woman in the land, she was intimidating to all of the macho ninja men in Konoha.
Since there was nobody whom she could turn her amorous attention to, she poured all of it to her work. She was considered as the most promising medic nin in Fire Country as well as the top choice for Class A Missions. All of the men feared and respected her; all of the women admired and envied her. She was used to being treated as one of the guys. She was used to knowing that she will never have the man she loved.
So she was definitely not used to receiving flowers.
On the first time, there were daisies on her desk. It had small card that simply read, "Sakura."'
She was surprised but she did not inquire.
On the second time, there was a a bouquet of orchids in vibrant purples and pinks. The card had her name on it.
She was touched but she did not investigate.
And finally, on the first day of spring, she received one more bouquet of cherry blossoms. It was waiting for her on her desk at work. The petals were in a delicate pink and the scent was heavenly. She turned the card over and read, "Sakura- I've waited for you to blossom all year."
Sakura looked up.
She saw Sasuke Uchiha waiting for her to acknowledge him. He was tall, strong and as handsome as she imagined. Even his smirk was enough to turn her insides into a puddle. She calmed her rapidly beating heart; she kept her tone normal. "I've got a suitor and I've no idea how to deal with him. I'm not the type of girl who gets romanced by flowers..."
"Get used to them." Sasuke said quietly. "I'll shower you with petals if it means getting an answer from you."
Sakura liked the sound of that.
