Slender, delicate fingers slipped over the keys slowly, lingering on certain notes, then building up speed as their owner's confidence grew. A bar later, and a smooth, low voice joined in.

They said there was a secret chord

That David played and it pleased the lord

But you don't really care for music, do you?

It goes like this - the forth, the fifth,

The minor fall, the major lift

The baffled king composes 'Halleluiah'

He took a shaky breath and continued.

Halleluiah, halleluiah

Halleluiah, halleluiah

Tears began to fall on pale cheeks, but the fingers continued their soft dance across the keys.

Maybe there's a god above

And all you ever learned from love

Was how to shoot at someone who outdrew you

I've seen your flag on the marble arch

Love is not a victory march

It's a cold and it's a broken 'Halleluiah'

Halleluiah, halleluiah

Halleluiah, halleluiah

He sensed the door open and along with careful footsteps behind him, but continued to play out the end of the song. On the final 'halleluiah' and the answering chord, a gentle hand fell on his shoulder.

"Miri..."

He half-smiled vacantly in response.

"It was today, wasn't it?"

"Yes." He answered plainly, taking his hands off of the keys and shutting the piano's lid. It was better if he didn't think about his family too much. "Mom used to play that song when I was little. She taught me how to play."

Treize sat on the bench, facing away from the piano. With a little effort, he caught the blonde's eyes. "They loved you very much."

"I miss them..." Zechs responded, a painful lump forming in his throat. "They would be so ashamed of me, though."

Treize shook his head vehemently. "No, gods, no! Your parents loved you. They might not approve, but they would understand." He gave him a reassuring smile. "They loved you."

Zechs sighed heavily. "I wish... I wish this all was just a bad dream and that everything had never happened." He began to cry again.

"Shhh..." He pulled the blonde into his arms. "I don't."

"But how can you want all this... Crap to happen?!!"

"If all that 'crap' didn't happen, I wouldn't have met you." He answered truthfully.

Zechs sniffled into his shoulder. "You're willing to go through it all for me?" His voice was saturated with incredulity.

"Of course, a hundred times over." He responded, smiling lightly. "I'd do it twice if it meant you would be near me always."

"That's an awful lot of suffering." The blonde commented.

"You bring me an awful lot of joy and happiness."

Treize's response touched something deep inside Zechs' heart. He hardly knew what he was doing when he leaned up and brushed a kiss over his superior's lips.

"Miri?" He questioned, confused. "What..."

"Parts of everything that has happened weren't all that bad." Zechs answered, purposely abstract. "I would go through it all a million times if it meant that I would meet you."

Treize felt himself at a loss for words. He eventually gave up and answered the blonde with a kiss. It may have been his imagination, but he could have sworn he felt Zechs mouth something into his lips.

'Halleluiah.'
