"Link, it's okay. Go to Corny's party. No, I'm not upset. Just because I have to stay at home doesn't mean you should." Tracy sighed, trying to convince her boyfriend for the third time today that she was not upset at him for going to the party Corny was throwing at the station. If it were up to her, she'd be going as well.

"Darlin', are you sure?"

"Link. Why should one other 17 year old suffer through a boring New Year's Eve?" Tracy's parents understood that she wanted to go to Corny's, but they missed their little girl. Over Christmas break, she'd spent almost all of her time with Penny, Seaweed, and Link. They were at Maybelle's, the station, the malt shop – anywhere but with Edna and Wilbur.

--

At ten, Tracy realized she hadn't moved in an hour. Her parents had turned on a concert being broadcast from New York and were entranced. She wasn't – she just had nothing better to look at. Tracy sighed, excused herself, and helped her to another piece of her mother's cranberry cheesecake in the kitchen. Then she made her way to her room. Mr. Phelps had given them a book to read for English and she had yet to start – might as well start now. Break was almost over.

--

At twelve, Tracy and her parents toasted to the New Year and her parents promptly went to bed.

Tracy smiled – she didn't mind having to be at home so much. She knew Fender would probably be hitting on Shelley and Lou Ann right now, Amber would be trying to find someone to kiss at midnight, and Corny would be trying desperately to find a way to ask Maybelle to dance.

Tracy was okay with getting her homework done instead. At least she had cake.

--

At twelve fifteen, right as Tracy finished getting ready for bed, she heard the familiar rumble of Link's car – he needed to take his it to be checked, but he had too much pride to take it to a mechanic. He was just waiting for a weekend when he had time to check it himself. Looking out her window, Tracy confirmed her suspicions – Link was pulling up to the curb.

Tracy quickly grabbed her coat and quietly made her way outside.

"Link?" She asked, meeting him as he stepped around the car.

"Trace? How'd you kn – "

"I can hear you coming from a block away. You should really take your car in – "

"Oh, right." Link flushed and leaned back against his car. "My dad and I are gonna look at it tomorrow – well, today – because he doesn't have to go into work."

"Oh." Tracy replied, unable to think of anything else to say.

"It's swell, because it'd be real unlucky if – "

Link was cut off abruptly when Tracy stepped forward and gently pressed her lips against his.

"Happy New Year." She said when she pulled away, smiling wide.
