"Tradition?" Cain asked curiously

"Yeah, something like that." DG said looking up at the ball in Times Square. She thought it would be an awesome sight for Cain. Her parents had taken her once when she was little and she never forgot.

9….

"So what happens when the ball drops again?" Cain asked rubbing his hands together and fighting against the shoving, excited crowd.

"It means a new year has begun." DG said for the thousandth time. The bright lights made her eyes shine. The cold made her cheeks bright pink only making her eyes stand out more.

8…

"What do you think about New York City Cain?"

"Other than the huge, pressing crowds, the place is beautiful. I like the water, that was nice." Surrounding crowds made the conversation almost inaudible.

7…

"Hey Mister!! I'll take a pair!" DG shouted to a man selling New Year's hat and glasses. She put on the bulky, plastic bright blue glasses.

"You look ridiculous, DG." The tall man stated with a wide smile.

6…

"I look ridiculous. Should you really talk?" The much smaller frame said pointing Cain's hat.

"There's nothing wrong with my hat DG." Cain said defended his most valued possession.

"Everyone thinks you're a cowboy, Cain," DG teased. "If someone asks me one more time what part of the Midwest you're from, I am going to dig a ditch and bury the thing."

5…

He sighed heavily.

"DG," he whined, "When is this over? I'm hungry and I'm tired of standing." DG glared at the complaining man.

"Quit griping Cain. It's almost over, only a little while longer and the New Year will be here." Excitement flashed over her face.

4…

"So what are we going to eat after this?" Another complaint seeped passed Cain's lips.

"You seem to be missing the point of what we are doing here." She said with an eye roll. "I don't think I have ever heard you whine so much, it's annoying Cain. I liked you better silent."

3…

"I guess you're right. Okay so one last time, explain why we are here." A grin spread across his face.

DG groaned inwardly, "People from everywhere come to Times Square here in New York City to welcome the New Year. There are performances and when the New Year arrives they drop that ball. Coming here was a tradition that my parents and I had." Her finger pointed to a brightly glowing ball.

"Oh. That is nice, I guess." His eyebrows crinkled, wondering how they could tolerate such a noisy tradition.

2…

"Ready Cain?" Electricity seemed to be running through DG's body, making her jumpy with excitement.

"Ready? For what?" DG pointed up to the ball that was slowly falling against the dark blue backdrop.

Confetti rained out of the sky and landing everywhere. Cain stared up at the sky and watched as the colored papers fell to the ground. Some of the crowd cheered, some kissed others simply smiled at the sight.

With a big smile DG turned to Cain. Grabbing his coat she pulled him in and kssed him.

He stood stunned as she replied, "The New Year."
