Okay so this is really ooc/au, I know, but it's just an idea that's been buzzing around in my head for a while. I love Finnick and Annie together, and in this Annie never went crazy- they're also already married. This is about the Quarter Quell reaping. Enjoy!
Oh; I also know that the women are reaped first, but in the movie it made it seem like Finnick was chosen before Annie, and it works out better in the story if she's chosen after him. Sorry!
It was the day of the reaping, and I could barely breathe. I knew Finnick was awake; I could feel the tension in his arms as they held me. We didn't make any sounds; we just lay there, appreciating the time we had together before it ran out. When the inevitable knock on the door finally came, we both bolted out of bed, as if we were on a live wire.
I follow my stylist back across the courtyard and into my house; the entire process is a blur.
I meet back up with Finnick, and the world comes back into focus. "You look beautiful." He smiles at me. "So do you." Our eyes lock and I touch his cheek briefly; then the moment is lost as we're asked to join the other victors on our way over to the Town Hall.
We line up next to each other on either side of the microphone and the giant glass bowls that hold our names. Finnick and I look at each other and then we watch as a lady with Green hair and a blue dress walks on stage.
"Welcome, Welcome, to the reaping for the 75th Hunger Games! Shall we start with the men?"
She turns to her left and pulls out a name; as she reads it I feel my chest tighten. "Finnick Odair!" I hear various cheers and cries from the audience, but I don't pay attention to them. I find it difficult to breathe, but when my eyes meet Finnick's as he steps forward, I calm back down again. He's upset, I can tell, but he's not panicking- so neither am I.
"And now, the Ladies." She turns to the bowl on her right. "Annie Cresta!" Once more, my chest tightens, but I see the fear on Finnick's face and so I smile. I won't show him that I'm upset, I won't upset him more.
I start to step forward but Mags puts her arm out. "I volunteer!"
"No, Mags, I won't let you!" I cry out. She turns to me. "Annie, you have to. Stay here." I hear Finnick call out to me. "Annie-"
I stop them both. "No. Thank you Mags, but no." I kiss her cheek and step forward.
"Annie, you shouldn't have stopped her." "Finnick, I couldn't let her do that, after all she's done for us."
I step forward so I'm side by side with him. "Till Death do us part, remember?"
"May I present Finnick Odair and Annie-"
I cut her off. "Odair. Annie Odair." Our hands find each other and our fingers intertwine. We turn to face the crowd, and we raise our arms together in a show of unity and strength.
"The Tributes of District Four- Annie and Finnick Odair. And May the Odds be Ever in Your Favor."
