Price of Freedom

Akira won. But the price he paid was too high, Saki thought. He became a world criminal: the person every law enforcement agency in the world was out looking for. That wasn't fair, because Akira hadn't done anything wrong at all…and if they slowed down enough to listen, they'd realise that.

As things were, few people were listening to the message Akira had sacrificed his freedom for. Eden of the East was the majority – that platform that had gotten the message out, that hadn't been able to be shut down because of that message of freedom they stood for.

But that didn't help Akira. Saki hadn't seen or heard from him for over six months, and the only comfort she had were those brief reports that the world was still looking for him. It was like Careless Monday all over again: the one who'd saved everyone was the one who was labelled the criminal.

At least the game that had caused it all was over now. They could rest easy on that front, that more people wouldn't get swept into this, more innocent people wouldn't get themselves involved. But that didn't help Akira. She couldn't help Akira either, if he was so far out of reach and sight from her.

She just had to be content with the knowledge that he was still out there, free, and hopefully safe as well.
