Track 1: Wine is Better than People

Alison sat in the basement, waiting for Beth to arrive for their Friday night drinks. Donnie had been particularly mean today, making it quite difficult to get him out of the house, but she somehow managed. The kids were off at their grandparent's house for the night, thank god, so Ali finally had a chance to relax.

Friday nights had become Alison's favorite part of the week because of Beth. She lived for them. So when Beth was over about a half an hour late- which was unusual for her- Alison began to worry. What if she got in a car accident? What if something happened at work? What if she decided to spend her night with Paul instead of me? What if she didn't care about me anymore? All of these thoughts flowed through her head and before she knew what she was doing, her previously untouched glass of wine was empty.

Feeling a bit guilty, Alison poured herself another glass of wine and set it on the table. Hopefully, the detective wouldn't be able to deduce she started drinking her worries away before her arrival. Another ten minutes passed. Then another ten. Still no Beth. A bit hurt and betrayed, Alison took another sip of wine as more worrisome thoughts crowded her mind. What if it was me? What if I effed it all up? Does she know how I feel? What if she hates me? Did I miss her birthday? How did my drink get in my hand again? Why is it almost empty? Oh eff it!

Alison finished off her current glass and poured another, this time not even trying to wait. Alison took a sip, then walked over to her iPod and pressed play. To her annoyance, it was the karaoke version of the Frozen soundtrack on shuffle. She had almost forgot about the Frozen themed surprise party she had to throw today. She had been too busy hurting over Beth. All Alison wanted to do was escape today. Escape all the madness.

As she drank her third glass of wine, Ali found herself humming along to the music a bit. Feeling a bit forlorn, she began to softly sing along. "Wine is better than people, Champagne don't you think that's true?!" In a much louder, deeper voice she mocked Jonathan Groff's impression of Sven. "Yeah, people will beat you and curse you and cheat you. Every one of them's bad except you!" The tipsy woman raised her glass, smiling and giggling at her own wit. "Cheers to that!" She finished off her glass, then reached over to pour a fourth. Before she lifted the bottle, a strange crashing came from outside the basement door. "Beth?" Alison's heart leapt with hope as she raced to the door. When she peered out from behind the curtain, she saw no Beth. Her heart ached at the knowledge that the noise was caused by the wind, rather than her favorite cop.

The heartbroken housewife slumped back to the coach, pouting the entire time. She crashed on the couch and poured another glass of wine to fill the hole in her heart. To Alison's grave disappointment, the wine didn't even fill half of the glass before the bottle was empty. She sighed and continued to serenade the bottle. "But people love better than wine does… wine, don't you think I'm right?" Barely able to mimic the reindeer's voice, Alison continued. "That's once again true.. for all… except…you…"

"You're damn right."
