For Only Me to See
Ianto can see, see the love that fills Jack's eyes every time he looked at Gwen, and doesn't know anyone is watching. But Ianto is watching, always watching.
It hurts him, hurts to think that he will never be that in Jack's eyes. It hurts to think that the man that has captured his soul, his very essence, doesn't think of him other then the one that helps with his release after his frustration over Gwen. Is looked upon as the one that will hold all of his secrets until death do us part. That he is but only a weak, faint representation of what Jack really wanted but could not have.
This place, this job was killing him—slowly but surely from the inside out. But he didn't leave, didn't quit and instead Ianto stayed. He stayed because he needed to; because he knew—if anything else— that the Captain needed him. It was silly, he knew, but it didn't change the fact that Jack needed him.
Everything was perfect before, before Gwen came along. Ianto didn't hate Gwen, didn't really have anything against her as a person, it wasn't like she could control the way that Jack felt. But it didn't change the fact that when she came along, she changed the way that Jack felt about him.
It had been pure bliss, Ianto couldn't have been happier. But even now, when they kiss, Ianto knew that Jack was picturing Gwen. But despite that, Ianto will always come at Jack's command. Will stick with Torchwood and stay by Jack's side. And despite that heart ach that each and every kiss caused, it also granted him happiness because Jack had chosen him of all people in the world, and of all people in Time and Space.
Because, despite—despite everything, Ianto Jones was in love with Captain Jack Harkness.
