AN: Before we get started, do you want me to refer to Light as Raito and L as Ryuuzaki? Your call, I put up a poll in my journal. I personally like Light and L, but I don't mind their Japanese counterparts.

PS: If any of you care, the theme song of the story is "Comatose" by Skillet (also the name of this chapter). If you've never heard of it, download it NOW. I doubt anyone has never heard of it though, it's a fairly popular song on iTunes.

This chapter starts exactly the day after L dies. After that, it will split from canon completely, sort of. Just a turn of events I put on the story.

Prologue: Comatose

The day in Tokyo was sunny, but remnants of rain could be seen everywhere. The leaves of the plants hardy enough to survive in the city were shiny and slick with water that dripped towards the sidewalk. The sidewalk was stained with old puddles, slowly but surely evaporating. Some were already gone, their circular grey imprints still visible where people scurried across the hard concrete in leather business shoes.

If you were to be walking down that sidewalk, you would not particularly notice anyone, the crowds and congestion were too thick to see through. Businessmen and women formed a screen, blocking out anything of any importance as they hurried along, each one hooked up to various electronic communication devices as if they were life support.

However, if you were to possibly notice any person through the screen of conformity, you might see the tall and broad shouldered young man, head hung down watching his feet as he walked, bronze hair hanging sleek over his eyes.

He was the picture of perfection, an easy smile, a beautiful face and figure, a seemingly easy walk. He was dressed casually, his honey brown eyes seemed relaxed and easy, melting girls' hearts with a single glance.

However, if you were to follow this seemingly normal golden-boy type figure with your eyes, your mouth would most definitely fall open in shock as he crossed the street, at the same time a nondescript silver car speeds through a red light.
