Little child, be not afraid
The rain pounds harsh against the glass

Like an unwanted stranger
There is no danger
I am here tonight

Whitekit shrank back into his mother's warm fur as another explosion of thunder sounded. "What is it, Mommy? Make it go away!" Whitekit's mother purred in amusement.

Little child
Be not afraid
Though thunder explodes
And lightning flash
Illuminates your tearstained face
I am here tonight

"It's the sound of Starclan rabbits," His mother gently explained. "They make so much noise, it shakes water down from the sky."

And someday you'll know
That nature is so
This same rain that draws you near me
Falls on rivers and land
And forests and sand
Makes the beautiful world that you see
In the morning

Whitekit's eyes grew wide. "Really?" The white kit flinched once more as lightning cast an eerie glow over the camp. Then, it was black. Whitekit whimpered and pushed himself against his mother's, Snowfur's, pelt ever harder.

Little child
Be not afraid
The storm clouds mask your beloved moon
And its candlelight beams
Still keep pleasant dreams
I am here tonight

"That's lightning," Snowfur continued. "Up in StarClan, the sun is still shining. Sometimes, it flashes down from Silverpelt to let us see through the water."

Little child
Be not afraid
The wind makes creatures of our trees
And the branches to hands
They're not real, understand
And I am here tonight
Whitekit squeaked again as droplets of water blew into the den.

"Why is the water so cold?"

Snowfur chuckled at her sons endless questions.

And someday you'll know
That nature is so
This same rain that draws you near me
Falls on rivers and land
And forest and sand
Makes the beautiful world that you see
In the morning

It took the white queen a moment to think of an answer for this question. She closed her eyes, and let her memory wander back to when she had asked her mother, Moonflower, the same thing...

For you know, once even I
Was a little child
And I was afraid
But a gentle someone always came
To dry all my tears
Trade sweet sleep the fears
And to give a kiss goodnight

"The water is cold because though StarClan blesses it with the power of life, it has never touched the sun."

Well, now I am grown
And these days have shown
Rain's a part of how life goes

Snowfur relayed her explanation to her son. He nodded thoughtfully, and then took a cautious steps towards the water. Whitekit dabbed at it with a paw, only to leap back in fear it may bite him.

But it's dark and it's late
So I'll hold you and wait
'til your frightened eyes do close

Whitekit returned to his mother, curling up beside her. He rested his head on his paws, and curled is tail around his nose. Snowfur could still see his eyes open to a slit, watching for more unexpected splatters of rain.

And I hope that you'll know
That nature is so
This same rain that draws you near me
Falls on rivers and land
And forests and sand
Makes the beautiful world that you see
In the morning

Snowfur sighed heavily, her mind traveling back to her own mother. Eventually, though, her head also drooped until both she and her young kit were asleep.

Everything's fine in the morning
The rain will be gone in the morning
But I'll still be here in the morning
