Another Summer Ships story! Lorraine (ILoveWIllRiker) is about to finish writing her 11th Doctor/Amy story (I love them, she hasn't seen it, so she's having a little trouble). Check out her's too if you want! She's my favourite author!
Mindy Crenshaw spread her books out on a table at the ice cream shop and started to study about whales. She liked whales, but she had liked them better not knowing so much about them. At least, she wouldn't mind knowing so much if she could read the right books. These were rather graphic.
"All right, everybody, it's time for the gig you've been waiting for!" the head of the shop shouted out over microphone. Mindy looked up. What the hell? Since when was there live music here? It was usually relaxing!
Suddenly, Drake and his band jumped out onto the stage – no - floor. There wasn't a stage.
Mindy lammed her books shut. "Mr. Silver!" she exclaimed, running up to the head of the shop. "What are they doing here?"
Mr. Silver was clapping along with the loud electric music. "They wanted a gig and I thought live music would be great!" he yelled over the music. "Aren't they great?"
Mindy put her hands on her hips. "No! Boo!" she yelled at Drake's band. Drake grinned at her. She scowled. "You suck!" she shouted, grabbing her backpack.
Mr. Silver stopped clapping immediately. "Hey, hey!" he yelled, pulling Mindy back from the "stage." "I'm surprised at you, Mindy!" he said in that degrading voice.
Mindy flushed red and glared at Drake. "I come here to do my homework!" she said. "They're a bit of a problem! And Drake sucks! He can't play music!"
Mr. Silver laughed. "Can't play music? He's great! If you're going to be rude, Mindy, leave."
Mindy crossed her arms. "Fine. And I won't come back."
She stormed out into the October wind, her caramel hair blowing back. She was nearing her block when somebody came running after her. "Hey, Mindy! Wait!"
Mindy spun around. "What are you doing here?" she snapped at Drake. "Come to play more loud rock music?"
"I don't have my guitar," Drake pointed out. "And why did you leave? Even if you hate me, you can't hate my music because of that."
"Hmm," Mindy said sarcastically. "Funny, I think, well, maybe, I can! Isn't that weird? Look, Drake, what do you want?"
"I just wanted to say I'm sorry you got kicked out," Drake said, glancing back. "I didn't know you did homework here."
"It's not like it would have made a difference if you did," Mindy said. "You still would have played. I guess you do anything for a gig."
"Yeah," Drake said. "Wait, why would you guess that?"
Mindy smiled slightly. "Oh-no reason. Maybe because nobody wants to book you?"
"We're great!" Drake said, smiling too.
"I didn't say you weren't," Mindy said lightly.
"So you think we are good?"
"I didn't say that."
"But you do!"
"Not really."
"You don't like us?"
"Well-" Mindy shrugged. "You're good, okay? But that doesn't mean I like you. Don't get your hopes up."
"Why would my hopes be up?" Drake said easily. "Yours might be, though."
"No they are not!" Mindy exclaimed indignantly, putting her hands on her hips again. "But I know you."
"I thought you hated me?" Drake said, pretending to be confused.
Mindy laughed. "I do," she said. But before she knew anything else, her arms were around him. "I really hate you."
"Me too," Drake said, hugging her. "I guess that's just one thing we have in common."
Did you like it? I hope so!
Also, I have a poll on my profile ("Who's your favourite Doctor Who companion?")! Vote there if you want!
