Matt hears the pounding on his door, rolls over and looks at his clock. 3:30. In the morning. He rolls towards the edge of his bed and pulls on a pair of shorts. He doesn't even bother with the shirt. He trudges to the door and when he opens it, he finds a frazzled Beth standing outside in the hallway. "Beth!" Matt hisses, "what are you doing? You're going to get in trouble!" He says grabbing her and pulling her into his room.
"Maaaaaaaaaaattttt," she says a little louder than she should. "I was just…I was with Wessy and Sammy, we were having a little fun before he left," she slurs bumping into him. Matt had never been more thankful before for having a single room as he was now.
"Beth, why don't you just sit down," he says helping her towards his bed.
"Ohh, Matt, I'm not sleeping with youuuu," she says tapping his nose lightly. He laughs at the insanity of the situation.
"Beth, really, I'm not trying to sleep with you. I just don't want you to fall. Please, just come sit down," Matt says finally getting her to sit. He goes to his mini fridge and grabs a bottle of water. "Drink this," he says handing her the bottle. She obeys and downs half of the bottle in one gulp.
"Thank you," she says as she fumbles trying to get the cap back on the bottle. He takes the cap and the bottle from her putting it on his night stand.
"You're welcome, now I'm not letting you go back to Crawford like this, so you're sleeping over but you can have my bed and I'll sleep on the floor," Matt says dragging one of his pillows off his bed, and grabbing one of the blankets he had lying around.
"Matt," Beth says, her voice suddenly quiet. "Can we watch a movie? Please? I'm really not tired, and I just need someone to talk to, I think the movie will help," she says her lip stuck out in a slight pout. He looks at her, and just sees a little kid.
"Sure Beth," he says his tone matching hers. "We can watch a movie, anything specific?" He asks walking over to his DVD cabinet.
"The Notebook?" She asks perking up and then settling into his bed. He smiles grabbing the DVD off the shelf and puts it into the player. Silently he thanks God that neither of them have school the next morning. Matt goes to sit on the floor at the end of his bed. "Matt," Beth calls. "You do know you can sit next to me right? I don't bite," she says smiling. He smiles back and goes to climb in to the other side of his bed. The beginning of the movie starts as he looks over at her. She looks on the verge of tears.
"Beth? What's wrong?" Matt asks concern clear on his face.
"I just…I feel like I'll never find love like Noah and Allie's," she says starting to cry. He wraps his arms around her giving her a hug.
"Shh," he says trying to calm her. "It's ok, really, you're young, and still got tons of time. There's absolutely no need for you to settle down right now."
"Bu-but Blaine and Kurt a-and Wes and David," she says through her tears.
"They are exceptions to the norm, they found their soul mate early, but there's still plenty of time to find yours. There's still plenty of time for both of us," he says smiling down at her.
"You really think so?" She says looking up at him through tear filled eyes.
"Of course I do. Any man would be lucky to have you," he says giving her a squeeze. She blushes slightly before giving him a peck on the cheek.
"Thanks Matt," she says settling back down on his shoulder. They fall into a comfortable silence and after a few minutes Matt notices it's because she's fallen asleep. He reaches for the remote on his night stand shutting the tv off before resettling and resting his head on hers.
