I never begin with a note, but I wanted it to be clear that this is a type of "every other line" story. Let me know if it's too troublesome :)

Remus couldn't help but smile as Lily's cheeks took on a glowing red.
"You'd better hurry, then," was all he said. Green eyes flickered to the backside of the portrait door. She pushed up from the chair and jogged to catch up with the boy who'd left not five minutes before.

James took his sweet time meandering down the corridor; Sirius wouldn't be able to meet him in the kitchens until he'd finished his detention with Filch.
He saw her name on the map and slowed even further.

It was all she could do not to run when she saw the back of his messy hair and un-tucked shirt. Adrenaline pushed her. If she thought too much about what she was going to do, she'd psych herself out.
Again.

Butterflies fluttered in his belly when Lily finally came up beside him. He'd never get used to that.

Could her face get any hotter?
Merlin, she almost felt sick with nerves.
She had it bad.

"What's got you wondering the halls, Lilypad?"

His voice was not helping the matter.
"I could ask you the same thing, James."

His name on her lips made his heart skip a beat.

She loved saying his name.

"I've got myself a hot date down in the kitchens," he joked in an attempt to calm himself down. Her mere presence made his palms sweaty.

Gryffindors didn't run away.
Lily held her ground firmly, eyes straight, face hot, and hands cold.
"That's… I was going to ask if you… that is to say… where'd you leave the patrol schedules so I can make copies for everyone?"

His imagination ran off with the question before she had even finished. He shook his head of such thoughts and ruffled the back of his hair.
"Yeah, they're still in my bag in the meeting room."

"Great," she hurried and turned back before he messed his hair again.
Because he would.
And she liked it.

He ran his fingers through the black strands, grabbing a fistful in frustration.
He could see that she was holding something back
And he hated it.

Remus met her eyes in curiosity. She felt like the embarrassment would never go away.
"Maybe I'll ask him when he's not on his way to a date."
She felt so humiliated.

James hadn't expected Remus to enter the kitchens. The werewolf snatched up the map from the mirror of Gryffindor table and looked at it intently.
"You told Lily you had a date?"
"Sirius'll be here any second," he answered with a nod.
Remus tossed the map at him.
"She was going to ask you out."

It was worse when he stood in the doorway to the meeting room.
Couldn't she be embarrassed in peace?

Her wide green eyes and red face made his heart beat double

"What are you doing here?" She tried to sound polite. She really did.

Maybe his imagination wasn't as wild as he thought it had been.
He didn't answer her.

The papers fell from her hands when James threaded his hands through her hair and pulled her lips hard to his.

He could kiss her forever. Hard and passionate and eager.

And she'd let him.

Notes: New style that I wanted to experiment with. I can't decide how I like it so let me know, will you? I didn't originally have Lily's part italicised but I didn't want it to be too confusing. The title is based off of the Coldplay song I was listening to when I wrote this
