A/N Hey all. This is my first fan fiction so please review and let me know what you think. I'm not sure exactly how often I will be updating it but it will probably once every two weeks or so. Hope you enjoy!
Prologue: Rebirth of a Kingdom
It was but two weeks after Eragon's departure from Alagaesia and the rebellions against her were beginning to become quite tiresome to quell without the help of the rider. Nasuada was having to send soldiers of the Varden to many places in order to make sure that the recently established peace was held. She felt tired, she wished that all of the violence could end and she could rest easy in knowing that the last of her enemies were defeated. These thoughts were interrupted shortly by a knock on the door of the study she occupied in Uru'Baen, now renamed Illeria. One of the Nighthawk guards announced the arrival of Vanir, the ambassador of the elves in the capital of Nasuada's new kingdom.
"Enter" said Nasuada simply.
The door swung open with a slight creak and admitted Vanir who gave her a slight bow.
"Good morning my lady" said Vanir as he straightened up from the bow. "I bring news from the Queen Arya."
"Speak then Vanir, what news does your Queen have for me this day?"
"Queen Arya wishes you to know that the elves located in Cuenon and Dras Leona have withdrawn and she wishes to assure you that with the arrival of your men the two cities are now fully under your control and that you should have no fear of rebellion from either of the two."
"That is excellent news Vanir. You may tell your queen that I am very grateful for her continued support. Any other news from the kingdom of the elves?"
"No my lady that is all."
"Thank you Vanir you may go, and don't let your queen mourn to much in the loss of Eragon. Though she does not show it I fear that it plagues her more than most know."
"I will do my best my lady"
Several months later…
Nasuada was once again pacing her study as she waited on Trianna to come and meet with her. In the previous months all of the rebellions against her had finally been stopped and she could rest easy that the realm was being held in peace and that trade was flourishing with all of her allies, Surda, the Elves, and the Dwarves. There was but one matter that still plagued her mind, and which she had not yet found a permanent solution to, that was the problem of how to bind all of the magicians of the human realm to one central rule. It was for that reason that she had summoned Trianna to her today. As the leader of the Vardens current force of magic users she would be an important tool in helping her establish the new laws they were laboring tirelessly to create. She was deep in thought when the door banged open and Trianna entered in a rush, startling Nasuada.
"Good Trianna you are here." Nasuada remarked after recovering from her slight lapse in concentration.
"Nasuada, I believe I have found a solution to our problem." Trianna said this as she gasped for air, as though she had all the way up the many stairs of the tower.
Elsewhere…
Eragon stood on the shore of the island that he and the elves had found after many weeks of sailing. The elven ship Talita had carried them far out of Alagaesia and into the open sea. It was in this sea that they had found the massive island on which they now worked tirelessly to prepare a home for the coming dragons.
The island was defined by the three massive mountains that jutted out of the center of the island. On the southern and eastern sides of the island lie a massive forest with thick vegetation and was home to many animals, some similar and some wildly different from those found in Alagaesia. The western side of the island was defined by the hills that seemed to roll like waves up to the base of the mountains. This was much in contrast to the Northern reaches of the island, which was dominated by plains and grasslands.
Eragon, along with the elves and numerous eldunari with them had decided that this was the ideal location to raise the next generation of dragons and riders. As soon as they had landed they had begun construction of what Eragon referred to as "the citadel". They built on and carved into the largest and most central of the three mountains. They were progressing at a steady pace and already had room enough to comfortably house all that were already living there. They were to begin construction of the spaces for the housing and training of the new dragons and riders shortly. However Eragon often stood on the shore gazing off towards Alagaesia and thinking of all the loved ones he had left behind.
