An Officer's Perspective

(A/N: This was originally an 'assignment' for the Rejects Army, which was a promotional site when the movie was in theaters. Members were supposed to do various tasks to earn points to get free prizes. One of them was to write from the point of view of one of the police officers during the raid in the beginning of the movie. This is mine.)

I have been a police officer for over twenty years. I have seen murders. I have seen rapes.

But I have never seen Hell until today.

Wydell's been going on and off about how everything up until now was merely a warm-up to what we are going up against today. He's always been one to exaggerate (he says something like that every time, I swear to God) but this time I actually believe him.

We drove over to the house and Wydell took out his speakerphone and told the residents inside that now would be the time to vacate the place peacefully. Yeah, right. As if anyone ever would do that.

A gunfight erupted. I was in the back, so I was lucky. Or unlucky, depending on how you look at it. I saw several good men get plowed down. Men with wives waiting for them. Men with children. A couple of bullets whizzed by me I never got hit. In retrospect, it would have been better if I just died.

I didn't see it but apparently one of the people inside was shot and another was taken in alive. But two of them managed to escape.

"Little fish." Wydell said to me later. "We could have gotten two of the most wanted scumbags alive, but all we got was little fish."

"Sir, any day I went fishing, a day I got a fish was a good day."

"Don't start with that bullshit, officer." Wydell sneered. "I'm going to get those bastards—see if I don't."

We went inside later. The place was like a morgue. Dead bodies all around. Rotting hands used as paperweights. There were severed heads stuffed in the refridgerator.

That was when I saw her. Mother Firefly.

Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. All the time we were trying to handcuff the bitch, she was spittin' and yowlin' just like a cat. She clawed for my face, and just missed my eye, I hit her on the head and that shut her up.

She was quiet for most of the ride back. She smelt like death. Then she began cackling. She'd raise her hands and told us that God wouldn't save us, that God was dead. She even mighta pissed herself for all I knew. Fucking psychopath.

Wydell turned around and said that one of her children was dead, she was captured and soon the rest of her spawn would follow suit.

Man. The look that she gave him…if looks could kill, he'd just be another body being carried off.

She was silent for the rest of the trip, but the silence was worse. A lot worse.
