Disclaimer: I do not own Primeval-that would be ITV.

Reviews would be lovely, and I would greatly appreciate any constructive criticism.

It was the accent, Stephen finally decided. That, and the years they had spent together, often for long hours at a time. Surely when you spent that much time with someone, it was impossible not to find them a tiny bit attractive…maybe not to this extent, admittedly, but who could resist a voice like that? The pitch, the modulation-it send shivers down the spine. Not that it did. Of course it didn't. They were a friend, nothing more. He was tired, imagining feelings that weren't there. Perhaps he needed to get out more, meet other people.

Amazing how well the mind can rationalize things away isn't it?

Time passed, and Stephen moved on. He found a girlfriend-Amelia, and they got on well. Very well indeed, and he even dared to think that he might be in love. It didn't last, the feelings for her disappeared as quickly as they had arrived, and he thought perhaps he had mistaken lust and excitement for love. It wouldn't be the first time. Still, he carried on with his life, ignoring the undercurrent of feelings that hadn't disappeared like the ones for Amelia had.

Thinking about love was a bad idea. It brought back more thoughts of those long days, comfortable, laughing, listening to that beautiful voice…He didn't just think beautiful then did he? Damn, bad move. Can't be thinking that. Just concentrate on something else-this was his mind trying to fill the space that Amelia left behind. It didn't mean anything, really didn't. Perhaps he should do something else to take his mind off things, because he obviously wasn't thinking straight.

It was around this time that Stephen began to head off to the gym more. He wasn't unfit, but exercise seemed to keep his mind more occupied. Before long though, the gym became a little tedious, and he decided to try something a little more adventurous. It had been a while since he'd last picked up a gun, and it certainly felt good to be back on the firing range, doing something that he really had a talent for. Another good point was that it stopped his mind wandering, as he needed to keep his concentration.

With that, and taking up a morning run, it was a lot easier to ignore those feelings. Eventually, ignoring them became second nature, and he could almost forget they were there. Almost.
