'Jesse, sometimes I swear you're here but then not at all.' she says, reaching out to touch his face.
But the weight of her fingers is no more than the rain trickling down his face and noticeable even less. She smiles, laughing a little at the unintentional irony. If how we act is wholly based on our mutancies, he thinks, then Emma would know his secrets.
Know that he wants to tear open his chest and show her the writing upon his heart.

The low rumble of thunder across the concrete coloured sky sends them inside, where he watches her watching him.
It's just crush, he says to himself. A crush. And he hopes she doesn't hear him.
