It had all started out as a joke, they were all eating lunch out in the quad one of the last days before Wesley had to leave back to China and they had started talking about blind dates. "I've never been on one," Matt had said, and he's been regretting it ever since. Wes had looked at him, smiled and said I've got the perfect date for you. It had taken a lot of convincing for Matt to actually go on said date, but finally a phone call from David and settled his fears.
"Trust me, it's not going to be Wes in drag," David laughed over the phone.
"You don't understand," Matt says trying to explain. "Ever since he kissed me on Halloween I've been scarred!"
"Don't worry, I promise Wes will be very occupied that day," David says.
"Gross man, I don't need to know." And with that they hung up. Now here Matt stands in front of his closet, freshly showered, about an hour away from the big date. He can't decide on what clothes to wear. Do I want something fancy? Do I want something casual? Should I show off my muscles? Or cover them? It was all too confusing and by the time he had finally picked an outfit he had less than 20 minutes to get to this new coffee shop that had opened up right outside of Westerville, which was at least 40 minutes away. "Shit," he mutters grabbing his keys and hopping into his Mustang. He makes it to the coffee shop only ten minutes late. Matt walks up to the counter and orders a Chai Latte. After he gets his drink he scans the shop trying to find anyone that looks like Wes' description and then spots Beth in a corner. He walks over to her. "Hey Beth," he says smiling. They had started talking quite a bit since Matt had accidently kissed her on Halloween. "What are you doing here?"
"I could ask you the same thing," she smiles back motioning for him to take the seat across from her. "Truthfully?" She says leaning across the table. "I'm supposed to be here on a blind date, but I don't think the asshole has shown up yet." Matt chokes on the little bit of latte that he had in his mouth. "Oh my god! Are you ok?" Beth asks getting up and patting him on the back.
"Blind date?" Matt croaks out after clearing his throat.
"Yea, Wes said he had the perfect guy for me and said that I should really give it a try. I thought it honestly couldn't be that bad, and now here I am," she says motioning to the coffee shop. "But it appears 'Mr. Perfect'," she says using air quotes. "Didn't show up."
"Er, Beth?" Matt asks looking at her. "I'm pretty sure I'm your date," he smiles sheepishly as her expression changes.
"Oh, oh! Oh my god, you are, aren't you? You fit the description exactly! Although I'm not too sure I agree with Wes when he said you aren't that good looking," Beth says blushing. Matt flushes but takes another sip of his drink to cover it.
"So, am I forgiven for being late?" He asks, smiling at her.
"Of course you are! Don't even worry about it, how come you were so late though?" She asks curiously.
"Honestly? I couldn't pick what I wanted to wear," Matt laughs and so does Beth. Why hadn't he thought of this before? Beth was sweet, and funny. Plus she just went to Crawford which was practically down the street from Dalton. He'd have to thank Wes later…way later. There was no way he was going to admit that he might actually be right about something.
