Blind, Deaf And…Dumb

This followed right after the episode:

There Goes The Bride 1.15

Just to fill you in: I'm after that episode but I changed the end a bit…

"I guess Love is blind…And deaf…and very, very dumb", Martin shook his head.

"Spoken like a true romantic", was Jack's reply.

"What? You going to tell me you still buy into it?" Martin asked.

"Sure, marriage, kids…the whole nine yards", Jack answered and Martin knew he was looking very skeptically but he didn't care in that moment: "I didn't say I was good at it, I said I was a fan."

This conversation with Jack from earlier today was still running through his head, bugging him. And yeah, when it came to Danny, he was blind,…and deaf.

He hadn't been able to see the strange way Danny acted around him, the way his body-language told volumes…but he had been blind until now.

Deaf…oh yeah. He ignored everyone around them, how they whispered and talked about them even when there was no them, yet.

Martin didn't listen to the hidden meaning in everything Danny said.

And all it took was a brief conversation with Jack about love and the first thing that came into his mind was Danny, and stayed there.

So, Martin sat down to think. He knew he never was or would be one of those who were dreaming about the whole nine yards…This American Dream never included queers, now did it?

Here he was, sitting on his desk and seeing the lights still on in Jack's office and everything else around them was dark and deserted.

"Martin, you're still here? Why don't you go home? You can finish your report tomorrow…why not getting a date?"

"Why are you still here? Why don't you try and pretend in being good at this nine yards?", he knew he was unfair but with a smile Jack knew he was only teasing.

"Why don't you Martin?", Jack's interrogation skills were turned on.

"Because this American dream doesn't work for queer", Martin blurted out, realizing too late what he just said. Now he could add "dumb" to what love does to him. He could brush it off or…

"Why not? You don't need to be married. And I agree with you. Love makes you blind and deaf…oh and add dumb."

Martin looked puzzled up to Jack and waited for an explanation.

"Danny." Was all Jack said before turning around and leaving for the night.

"Martin, you still here?", Danny asked from behind and Martin jumped. He thought it was Jack's answer, not a greeting AND an answer.

"Yeah, just finishing reports and closing up", smiled Martin and turned towards Danny: "You?"

"Forgot my wallet." Danny turned and smiled: "You wanna come over, watch a game and grab some food?"

And this time, Martin wasn't blind, deaf or dumb.

He didn't need nine yards when he officially was together with Danny…Danny was enough.
