The Darkness was coming.

And of course my tire would choose right friggin now to get stuck in a pot hole.

"Dean…"

To be a hunter, there aren't a lot of demanding qualifications, but it's kind of a golden rule that you can't just freeze in sticky situations. You gotta be ready to fight whatever's coming at you, no matter what curveballs are thrown your way.

But as I turn in my seat—my pain in the ass brother by my side—all I can do is stare…and wait.

Not like I could outrun it anyway, but…

But this is something we've never seen before—that no human has ever seen before. There's no way to prepare, no knowledge to save me or Sammy… Stupid, stupid Sammy.

I feel him looking at me and turn my head just in time to see him look away. He's terrified—I can see it all over his face—but I can't protect him now. No one can.

And for all I know, this could be the end of not only my brother and I, but the entire population.

What have we done?

As I stare into the void coming straight for us, I feel a hand grabbing clumsily and roughly at my arm.

"DEAN!"

Shakily, I readjust my hand so that it's palm up, and Sam grabs on with tremors even greater than my own. Who cares about being girly anymore? Not me, not now. Not when we could be literally staring death in the face.

We exchange one more look—I'm sorry, I didn't know, I forgive you, I'd do it all over again—one more hard, hand-breaking squeeze, and then…

It all went dark.

A/N: How bout that finale, huh?! Hang in there, guys. We've got till fall to find out what happens next!
