I hate lying. Lying is terrible, and it hurts everyone in some way, shape, or form. I hate lying to people I don't know. I hate lying to my family. I hate lying my friends. I hate lying to the people that I love.
So why do I do it?
"Really, Roy! It'd be good for you! Don't you want to fulfill your best friend's greatest wish?"
Hughes pranced beside him, struggling to catch up with the furious black-haired man. Roy's fist clenched and his jaw was tight.
"Honestly Hughes, I don't need you to play match-maker for me. I am perfectly capable of finding myself a decent woman. I just don't have any want to at the moment. Plus, there isn't any one I'm interested in." He concluded with a huff.
Maes rolled his eyes. "Liar."
"I am not!" Roy shouted. His friend was so immature.
"You are too."
"What makes you think that?"
Hughes opened his mouth to respond but as cut off when a familiar blonde sniper entered the room. "Sorry to interrupt Colonel, but these need your signature." She approached him and set a document down before him. He nodded and scribbled his name.
"No problem, Lieutenant."
She saluted and exited. He looked after her for a moment before turning to glare and a sniggering friend.
"My point exactly."
"What are you talking about?" Roy asked, trying his best to hide his possibly flushed face.
"I saw that."
"Saw what?"
"First off all, you look like someone spray-painted your face. Second off, I saw the way you watched her leave." He traced an invisible heart in the air. "You like her, don't you?"
"Hughes, that's ridiculous. She's my Lieutenant and friend. It would be suicide to fall for her, she'd kill me. Then you. Then me again."
"I see the attraction."
"There is no attraction!" Roy slammed his fist on the desk and pointed to the door. "Now get the hell out of my office, before I sic Hawkeye on you!"
Hughes wasn't convinced. "Come on, Roy! Just admit you love her. I promise I won't tell anyone."
Roy pulled out his gloves threateningly. "I do not love her, or anyone for that matter! Now GET OUT OF MY OFFICE!" His fingers twitched.
Hughes frowned and darted out of the room. He paused at the door, traced another heart with a sly grin, and slammed the door shut.
The biggest, worst lie that had ever graced my lips… But I couldn't admit it.
I was deeply and pathetically in love with my Lieutenant.
