(Author's Note: And now, a change of pace from the two hare songs I've posted here recently. Figured it was time to give everybeast's favorite diminutive insectivores their time in the spotlight, with a marching song of their own. And in case you're wondering about the title, yes, this verse was very loosely modeled after the old civil war song of the same name, although the lyrics are entirely my own once you get past the "tramp tramp tramp" part, so you'll find no glorifying of the Confederate here! Enjoy!)
Tramp tramp tramp, we go a-marchin'
Over hill an' dale we range
Beneath the sun 'n' stars
We journey near an' far
To places both familiar an' strange
Tramp tramp tramp, we go a-wandrin'
Through forest dense an' open sunny glade
An' when the skies give rain
To boost our aches 'n' pains
We'll grouse an' grumble at the choice we made
Tramp tramp tramp, we go a-questin'
Back t' front an' nose t' tail we go
With muck between our toes
An' road dust up our nose
We yearn t' find a clear stream's running flow
Tramp tramp tramp, we've had enough now
Upon the water we shrews do belong
No more pounding paws
Instead we'll take up oars
An' rowin' off we'll sing a diff'rent song!
