The Tale of the Shining Sentinel
Jota looked at his hands. He had made his choice. The military life was not something he could bear any more. It was not because it was too demanding. He was strong enough to handle the labor. The scars both mental and physical were not his reason for this departure. These kinds of things could not detour him from his cause.
He was leaving because, his goals were not going to be reached here. There was nothing he sought more than peace. Being here had brought him no closer to achieving this. So he had decided to leave. This decision had brought him to the tent of the Supreme Commander.
He curled his hands into fists and took a step forward. After he walked into the tent, the Commander sighed. This confused Jota. "Had he been expecting me this whole time?" he thought to himself. Jota cleared his throat.
"May I have permission to speak, sir?" he asked.
"Permission granted. Now, what do you want Sergeant Jota?" the Supreme Commander asked.
"I would like to be relieved of duty," he said.
"Denied!" the Commander shouted angrily.
"Why?" Jota asked, attempting to keep himself under control.
"You don't deserve it," the Commander said.
"Why is that, if I might ask?" he questioned in both curiosity and rage.
"In truth, you're a terrible soldier, you can't follow orders, you can't work on a team, and you don't have respect for authority," the Commander said, growing more and more angry.
"I understand, sir," he said, barely able to retain his sanity.
"You won't leave this island 'til you've begged me for it," the Commander said smugly.
"Really?" Jota asked, now having been pushed over the edge. "Well, I think you will be the one begging." He rushed over to the commander and began strangling him. "Now, start begging for forgiveness," Jota said, with his hands still around the commander's neck. Nothing but coughing and gurgling came from the commander. Jota's hands loosened from around his neck as the commander's face began changing color.
The commander looked up in fear as he caught his breath. "Now send me off this rock," Jota said, trying to be as intimidating as possible.
"Okay, I'll do it!" the commander said, in fear for his life.
"Good," Jota said, walking out of the tent.
