Zoey glanced up from her desk and looked at the calendar on the wall. There were only two weeks left at PCA. She stared out the window onto the courtyard, and saw Chase laying in the shade, writing. Zoey forgot about the history paper she had been writing, and walked outside.
She walked slowly and quietly up to the tree, and sneaked up behind Chase. She could see some of what Chase had written.
"So there's only a couple weeks left here at PCA, and a lot of people have been asking me what I'll remember most about my time here. I haven't actually told anybody the answer, but they all know anyway, except one person"
Chase looked up from his notebook and noticed the tall shadow looming over him. He quickly slammed the book shut and turned around to see who it was.
"Oh, hi…Zoey," he said, nervously. "How long have you been there?" He prayed that she hadn't seen what he had just written.
"Oh, not long," she replied, "I just need a break from that history paper. How about a smoothie?"
"Yeah, sure," Chase said, glancing around to find his bag. He picked it up and stuffed his notebook into it.
After a few minutes, they stopped at the smoothie stand. Chase sat down, while Zoey stood in line. As he sat looking at the PCA campus he suddenly remembered his conversation with Michael that morning.
"Man, you better tell her soon," Michael had said, "Only two weeks left in high school, and I would hate to see this secret obsession go on into college." Chase mimicked the thoughtful nod he had given earlier.
"So you are going tonight?" Zoey asked. Chase snapped back from the memory and looked into Zoey's eyes.
"Sorry, what? I spaced out for a minute."
