Crookshanks hissed, causing Hermione Granger to looked around the library in search of what had disturbed her cat. Standing across the way was none other than Draco Malfoy, the boy she hated with every fiber of her being. How could it be that he was almost as good a student as she when she had never seen him so much as glance at a book?

Draco walked toward her and for a moment Hermione panicked. He had always teased her for her unruly locks and slightly large front teeth. But, unlike the other Slytherins, he had never called her the M word. Yet, Draco did not make any comments as he walked passed her. Their eyes met for a brief moment and Hermione's heart quickened. He went to the shelves behind her and searched for a book.

Hermione tried to focus on the Herbology she had been doing before he had entered library. She soon found that she could not concentrate because thoughts of the blond invaded her thoughts. Stealing a quick glance, she noted that his hair was unruly, almost like hers she thought with a smirk. But his hair was quite… attractive. Hermione's eyebrows knitted together. How in the world could hair be attractive? She was going absolutely mad, she decided. In that moment, Draco's eyes flicked up from the book he was assessing and met hers. They were a beautiful blue grey and Hermione couldn't tear her eyes away.

"What do you want, Granger?" he asked her after a moment.

"Oh, nothing from you, Malfoy. It's just the first time I've ever seen you pick up a book," she lied.

Crookshanks mewed as if he was calling Hermione out on her lie.

Draco shrugged and went back to his book.

Hermione continued her analyzing and all too soon, it was time for her to head back to Gryffindor common room.

"Granger," Draco breathed as she got up to leave.

"Malfoy?"

"Um…You know, your hair looks quite…nice today," he said lamely.

"Uh, thanks? Yours too?" she replied, confused.

Draco sighed and looked at the ground. "Look, I'm no good at these things. But I think you're pretty and smart and nice, okay?"

Hermione was still confused as to where this was going.

Draco rolled his eyes. "You're so oblivious."

That got her attention. "How dare you! I'm not oblivious, I just don't understand what you're saying to me!"

"So the brilliant Granger can't figure out when someone is confessing to her?"

"Well of course not!" she paused. "Wait, what did you-"

But she was cut off when Draco placed his lips gently against hers. She didn't know what to do, so she didn't do anything.

When he pulled away she gasped, "Malfoy, what do you think you're doing? You hate me!"

Draco face-palmed. "So much for the brightest witch of our age…" he muttered.

"I heard that!"

Crookshanks mewed over and over as the two continued to bicker.

"You're so clueless!" Draco shouted.

"I'm not," Hermione insisted.

Then Draco kissed her again and this time, she responded.

"Took you long enough…"

"Oh, shove it!"
