Max and Erma's house was on Pizza Street in Kentucky. Fried Chicken was their favorite thing to eat on Friday's. They had a Big and Muddy lawn, but Outback there was a Golden Corral and a stable. A famous racehorse named Johnny Rocket's had once lived there. Max took the Subway to work every day while Erma sat under the Crooked Tree near The Old Mill Stream. Each morning, Erma made a Golden Waffle for Max, who also liked to dig into the Cracker Barrel. He worked a block away from Penn Station, which was a Heaven Send at the end of the day. His job was to translate English into Japanese. Grilled Steak and Shakes usually made up his lunch. He wished he could work Dunkin' Donuts because his brothers, Dave and Buster, had won many Ralleys doing this.

Erma had always wanted to visit the Seaside and play Dominoes at her sister Wendy's house. She also desired to see Long John Silver's parrot, Hooter's. However, Max wanted to take the Panda Express to the famous Olive Garden and see Harry Carey's painting of the Red Robin.

Since they could never agree on a vacation, Max and Erma never went anywhere until one day Papa John's letter came. He was Max's father who worked on The 95th Floor of the Emperor's Palace in China. "Wok" was how he pronounced the English word "what;" he was really a strange, eccentric old man. He invited Max an Erma to visit him in his "White Castle" and see his wife, the "Dairy Queen." He called himself the "Burger King." Instead, the husband and wife decided to follow Lewis and Clark's Trail Heading West. They lived happily for the rest of The Millennium.
