Disclaimer- I do not own Inuyasha... blah blah blah
This is a short Kikyou one-shot, so if you send me a dumb ass review about how much you hate her, I will poke you with a cattle prod. I like her character quite a lot actually. She inspires sympathy in me.
This story is short, but I liked the way it turned out. If you like it too, please tell me. :)
…
She looked at her hands.
They weren't what they used to be. But she gets used to living as an illusion.
She didn't really know why she could breathe again at first. The air entering her lungs brought a bittersweet emotion to her cold body as she took in her first breath.
The first thing she saw was a girl that looked so much like her that she instantly hated her. She didn't know why, but she disliked the look on the girl's face. The look on her face was empty and filled with fear—so much like her own.
It isn't that she hated herself; she just loathed what she had become. She hated the fact that she died in betrayal. She would tell anyone that the most painful feeling in the world is dying hating the person you loved the most.
Her whole body was beckoning her to move, but she didn't want to. She was used to being asleep and she desperately wanted to sleep again. Something was trying to pull her back to life. Life is so cold and hell is warm. The feeling of lifelessness is beautiful and full, and in life, she never felt either.
She stood and then she saw him. He stared into her eyes for a long time before even saying her name, and even then it was a whisper. It wasn't until he said it again that her eyes filled with emotion.
She walked through the grass of an unknown valley barefoot with a ghastly look upon her face. For a while she stood still; she looked towards the death of the sun. She remembered a promise that was never kept being agreed upon under the same sight more than fifty years back. Upon her revelation, she fell to the grass to lie under the dying rays of light.
Once she was taken captive in her new body, she saw him again in full. His eyes were filled with pain and love, but all she saw was a lie in him. She saw a life she was promised torn into bits of paper and then lovingly scattered into the wind.
He acted like he never betrayed her love and feelings and that filled her with hatred and sadness all at the same time.
She smiled a rare and radiant flash up to the sky as she thought of the boy she loved so. She closed her eyes and remembered the feeling of him embracing
For such a long time she was all alone in the world, doomed to guard something that wasn't hers. Then she saw him and everything changed. She fell in love with someone she shouldn't have. She fell in love when she wasn't supposed to feel anything at all. That is why she changed her mind in the end…
"Why did you betray me, Inuyasha?"
She would always love him and hate him at the same time. She died believing he killed her and she could never forget the feeling of her lover's claws penetrating her pale flesh in hopes of stealing the one thing that always held her back. Yet, she also remembered the one thing she loved about him.
"You and I are alike…"
She sat up and gathered her things to leave, but before she moved, she looked towards the sun again. It would always be her sad reminder of a life she chose to live.
