"Vegetarian" Hunt
Edward Cullen walked down the steps of his family's huge, white house. His graceful, light footsteps made no sound. Today was a rare day in Forks, Washington; the sun shone and no rain clouds were to be seen. His chalky white, marble hard skin reflected the light in a million tiny facets. His face was perfect and beautiful, all the better to lure his intended prey. Unlike the norm for his kind, his eyes were caramel when his thirst was quenched instead of bright red. But now they were black with purple underneath, like he hadn't slept in a while. (Which was true, he hadn't slept in 90 years.)Thirst was strong in his body, making his throat burn. He wished Emmett and Jasper would hurry up. He already missed Bella. A soft wind rustled his golden hair. Brand new clothes covered him, an ivory sweater and khaki pants. (Alice hardly ever let any of the Cullens wear the same thing twice) He heard foot steps about half a mile off. Nothing escaped his keen senses.
Jasper bounded over to Edward. A feeling of calm followed close behind him. Then came Emmett, only a whisper of wind after Jasper. The brothers stood facing each other for a moment, smelling the air. Edward examined both minds present before him. Jasper was concentrating on a smell being blown away from them. He heard Emmett's excited, challenging thoughts and grinned. So it's a competition, huh? The wind changed and brought with it the smell of a small herd of deer and the wet thump of their hearts. Not as good as a carnivore, but deer quenched thirst the same as any other animal. "Your car for a day says I kill the buck." Emmett challenged.
"You're on." growled Edward.
Jasper laughed. And they were off, dashing through the trees at a speed only their kind and the Quileute boys could keep up with; too fast for human eyes to even see.
