Another Supernatural one shot...I'm just full of them! Here is The Show Must Go On

They had a schedule. No one had explicitly set it, but it was ther. It was their sense of normal. Sam would get up at an ungodly hour to go for a run and when he got back Dean would be fixing breakfast. Today was different. When Sam returned to the bunker, Dean was nowhere in sight. the only difference was the bottle of whiskey that had been sitting on the counter was gone. sam sighed and walked down the hall to his brother's room. He knocked, the strains of REO Speedwagon's Can't Fight this Feeling faintly reaching his ears.

"Dean?" he asked. The only response he got was a shatter as what he assumed to be a glass hit the door followed by th music being turned up.

"Dean, you need to talk about it!" he shouted, hoping his brother would listen. When nothing but music answered him, he turned back down the hall to get his own breakfast. When he got ther, Cas was waiting at the table.

"Where's Dean?" the angel asked.

"Indisposed. he won't be available today." sam replied.

"I do not understand. He knows we have little time to defeat Metatron. we must get back to searching for him."

"No, Cas. Not today. Just leave him alone today."

"Why? There is something more important thatn returning the angels to heaven?"

"God, you really don't remember, do you?"

"Remember what?"

"dean lost the only other person beside his family that he really truly loved five years ago. Every year, he puts on a brave face. But on that day, the day his world crashed around him, he falls to pieces. he shuts himself up, drinks himself into a daze and plays REO Speedwagon on repeat. the next day, he's back to normal. Or at least our version of normal. So yes, Cas. There is something more important than returning the angels home," Sam said, "I've never seen Dean that happy. Jo completed him. And now that she's gone, he is lost. So lost. So for today, the world can wait. The angels can wait. Killing Metatron can wait."

Without another word, Sam left, leaving a silent Castiel sitting in the kitchen. Despite what Sam had said, the angel did remember the blond hunter who sacrificed her liofe so they could stop the Apocalypse. He sighed and closed his eyes.

the next morning, Cas watched as Dean ambled into the kitchen at 8:30, placing an empty bottle on the counter. As the eldest Winchester began to fix breakfast, Cas could see the mask slip back into place. The Dean that had spent an entire day mourning was tucked out of sight. Sam returned from his run just as Dean was plating food. The two Winchesters ate silently. As they finished, Dean turned to Cas.

"Let's go find Metatron. it's time we killed that SOB"

Only Cas saw the sad look in Sam's eyes as he follwed his brother to the Impala.

"The show must go on." the youngest Winchester murmmered.
