The rain poured down as Miranda picked up the phone and quickly dialed Declan's number.
'Declan Dunn'he answered on the third ring
'Hi, it's me' she started'Can you come over?'
'Why what's wrong?' he said, hearing the urgency in her voice.
'My father's coming to visit'
'What's wrong with that' he questioned
'I haven't seen him for 2 years, then he just calls and says he's coming tomorrow' she explained
'I take it you two don't get along'
'Not really, but can you come over...I really need to be with someone'
'Sure, I'll be right there, see ya'
'Yeah, see ya'.

Declan knocked on the door and walkin in. Miranda was on her couch, her knee's pulled up to her chin. He'd never seen her like this before.

She saw him walk in but she didn't acknowledge it. She couldn't. No one except her mother and herself knew how much she despised her father. When she had left home for university her father hated it. He wanted her to continue with his business but she wanted to become a physist. That's when the arguments started. Eventually she had just lost touch with him and now with him coming...what could he want?

'You alright?' Declan asked, putting his arm around her trying to comfort her.'Oh, Declan' she said, her voice braking. She started cring and lent on Declan's shoulder.

'What's wrong?' Declan questioned, hugging her. Miranda blurted the whole story to him.

'Could you just say you're busy or something?' Declan offered. 'Nope, he'd just ask what I was doing and call them to cancel' Miranda said, catching her breath 'He has influence, and a lot of it'.
'Well, then I guess you can talk with him for a little while'
'I guess I have to'
'Be brave, and tell me what happens and if anything turns out really bad just call me and I'll come over and talk with him, okay?'

'Thanks Declan' Miranda said, smiling slightly at the prospect of Declan telling her oh-so-straight father off. They stood up and went to the door.'You'll be okay' Declan siad, lightly kissing her on the cheek before leaving.

************
'So how'd it go?' Declan asked, leaning back on his chair. They were in his office. 'Actually it went quite well. He said he still wants me to run the vineyards but whatever I do I'll be successful at because I'll keep at it' she answered.
'He knows you well'
'Yeah, well at leat we're on speaking terms' Miranda said, slightly blushing at the compliment.
'That's great' Declan sid jumping at the sound of the bell ringing. 'You're late' he said, as Miranda picked up her bag, gave him a quick hug and started towards the door.

'And Declan' she said 'Thanks'. 'That's okay' he said smiling.

Something had changed between them. They were closer, Declan thought. They had never hugged when she left before.
He knew her better and he wouldn't change that for anything.
