The Wait

Twenty-two year old Hinata continued to stare into the pitch blackness, searching for a light, any light, that told her that at least someone was alive out there, that there was a chance for her husband, Gaara, to still be alive. But there was no light, not even a spark. Gaara had said he would be back by now, surely the sand-storm had not been so dangerous, that even he, a controller of sand, could not continue home safely.

"Mama?" said a young questioning voice from behind. "When will Father be home, he promised he'd would help me with controlling my sand tomorrow." said Hinata's two year old son, trying to rub the sleep out of his eye's with one hand, while holding onto his bright red teddy bear in the other.

Hinata smiled fondly at her and Gaara's son and said the words she had been trying to convince herself were true. "Soon enough honey, your father will be home any minute now, with presents for the both of us from his trip to Wave." The little boy nodded, yawned, and headed back to his room, most likely going to sleep so that his father would be there when he woke up.

Hinata then turned back to the window, and frowned. Gaara had been called to a rare Council of Kages meeting in Wave the week before and should have been back by now, regardless of the sand storm. It took four days to travel to Wave, from Sand, and according to the letter he had sent her, he should of been back yesterday.

Hinata absentmindedly rested her hand on her heavily pregnant stomach, and sighed. All this worrying could not be good for the baby. So with that in mind, she turned off the lights and headed to bed.

But sleep didn't come to Hinata, rather, she just tossed and turned restlessly, unable to fall into the comforts of her dreams. It was several hours later, however, when Hinata felt the warm arms of her husband rap around her from behind, stopping to rest on her stomach. She then felt him bury his head into the crook of her neck.

"You're home!" Hinata whispered happily, while snuggling deep into her husbands arms.

"They couldn't keep me away from you long, as soon as the last of the meetings were over with, I packed my bags and headed straight home, but that pesky sand storm delayed me and my ANBU from being here sooner." he whispered tiredly, obviously physically and mentally exhausted from the trip. Hinata nodded in understanding, and soon the young couple were visiting the lands of dreams, dreaming about the other for the rest of the night.

Hinata did not notice, however, that there was a little sheet of paper on her night stand that had not been there before. That paper was the test results from the Suna Hospital, saying that Hinata Sabaku and Gaara Sabaku, would soon be the proud parents of identical twin boys.

I know I should be working on the sequel to the butterfly effect, but I couldn't get onto the internet and I had a burning desire to write some hinataxgaara. anyway, Guess what! Shi-shi entered a drawing contest the other day and took first place ;)
