Author's Note: I wrote this as practice recently after a review prompted me to start thinking about rewriting A Legend of Ability again. This story may or may not end up as canon if/when I finally get around to rewriting it.

Ash grinned and dropped his hands to his belt. Palming a small blue stone in one hand and a yellow stone in the other, he patiently waited for the signal. Opposite him, Ira bounced on his toes, just as eager as Ash was.

"Begin!"
Ash leaped into action, pushing his aura into the stone in his left hand as he threw it before following with a quick jab from his right fist, aura pulsing through the stone in it and creating a powerful electrical field. The Lucario was caught off-guard by the splash of water that came from the tossed stone and took the punch just above the spike on his chest. Ira recoiled, giving Ash time to extract another blue stone, this one a bit lighter, and point it Ira's torso. A chilly beam emitted from the stone and froze the water in Ira's fur, trapping the arm he had thrown up automatically to defend himself.

Gritting his teeth, Ira dropped to the ground and tried to kick Ash's legs out from under him, but a pair of dark purple gems on his boots popped and the kick passed right through them. Recovering from the sweep, Ira rolled away from Ash before popping back up into a fighting stance, eyes and ice-encased arm glowing blue, then the ice exploded away towards the man. Ash sidestepped and tossed a handful of orange stones and followed up with a kick to the abdomen, causing another orange gem on his boot to pop and sheathe the foot in flames. The flying stones popped into fireballs in midair, but Ira snapped up a round luminescent barrier that absorbed the fireballs without trouble. Ash's foot bounced off and the fire there extinguished, knocking him off balance as the Lucario dropped the shield and swung at Ash with an orb glowing in front of his palm. Ash instinctively popped several silver stones and took on a metallic sheen as Ira tapped him with the orb and fired a blast from it, pushing Ash back several inches.

Ash smirked. "Is that the best you've got?"

Ira growled and tossed several glowing blue spheres at the cheeky human, who sidestepped them and threw several of his own back. Ira created the barrier again to block the return volley but lost his opponent as they exploded against it.

As the smoke cleared, Ira looked around, confused. His aura vision told him Ash hadn't somehow gone invisible, but then a hand tapped him on the shoulder. "Hi," Ash said, holding a green gem in his face.

Aw cr- he thought before the gem popped and he drew in the sudden burst of powder in an involuntary surprise reaction. Ira felt himself growing drowsy, and managed to throw a burst of darkness at Ash, throwing him backwards through the air as it hit.

Recalling his training, Ash popped several chocolate brown stones in his boots, making him weigh several hundred pounds more. He dropped to the ground and skidded to a stop just before the line that marked the edge of the battlefield and popped a pair of pink pebbles in his boots, then sprinted across the small field to his snoozing opponent. Popping a final, coral-colored gem pulled from his belt, he picked the Lucario up and tossed him out of the ring.

"Ira has been thrown out of bounds, Ash wins."
