Bobby walked over to Press and handed him the journal. "I'm ready." Press took the tome, an expression that was a cross between sorrow and relief that an end had finally come.
"Bobby?" he asked as the young man prepared himself for whatever came next.
"Yeah?"
"I meant it when I said you were right," he smiled that familiar, knowing grin.
Bobby started to return the smile, started to say something, but a sudden drowsiness overcame him. He figured it was time for Bobby Pendgraon to return to the essence of Solara. He tried not to let it weigh on his heart even as he felt a wave of warmth roll through his body. His fingers and toes tingled, and the feeling spread towards his core.
And then there was nothing at all.
"Bobby?" Courtney Chetwynde was standing before him. In his house. And his lips were still tingling from their kiss. He was feeling a little lightheaded, but he breathed in deeply, holding the breath a moment before slowly releasing it. "Everything okay?" she asked.
Everything was amazing, he wanted to tell her. "Y-yeah. Everything's great. Awesome, even."
She was blushing now, eyes fluttering their gaze to her feet. She had never looked more prefect.
"So... you've liked me since the fourth grade?" he ventured. She nodded, eyes still lowered. "Nice to know the feeling's mutual."
That brought her attention back to his face. He grinned and pulled her in for another kiss, lingering his lips near hers after they had parted.
She fidgeted, lips swelling slightly. "We should probably get going. Don't want to miss the game and all."
"No, you're right," he grabbed his bag and slung it over a shoulder, not letting go of her hand. "Shall we?" Courtney nodded and he squeezed her hand gently, leading her out into the night, towards their school.
