Prologue
"Stupid!"
"Freak!"
"Murderer!"
These were only some of the insults hurled at Sophie this morning.
She was used to it, but she always had a sharp pain deep down whenever they said something to hurt her. She shoved past them with tears threatening to leak from her sleep-deprived eyes. The only people she could really trust were her best friends, Serena and Thomas. They had always been there to protect her. But then her dad decided she was depressed, and so he said that the family should move to the other side of the city. The only people she could trust were left behind.
And now, the insults had started again.
That was the side effect of being famous for your brother's mistakes. He had dated a very popular movie star, and when she decided to break up with him, he had brutally murdered her. So, the insults were mostly directed towards her brother who was currently on trial. Yet, even though it wasn't her fault, they thought of her in the same way. Great life, huh? Sophie was thinking about this when she suddenly bumped into a wall. She jumped back in surprise, only to trip and land in a puddle. Just when she thought that her day couldn't get any worse, she heard the cruel laughter of the other students. The tears that she had suppressed earlier now flowed freely down her grimy face. Sophie climbed to her feet and ran. She didn't care anymore, nothing mattered. Pushing past students and teachers alike, she ran towards the carpool area where 12 busses waited. And, just as the bell rang, her feet touched the wet road.
She didn't care where she was going. All that mattered was for her to get as far away from her miserable life as fast as possible.
Her tears were masked by the falling rain as she passed by house after house.
The last thing she saw before blacking out were bright lights.
