A tiny mew sounded from the nursery, cottonear slipped her head out of the holly bush,"come and see your kits snakefanf, they are here at last." she purred to the tom. he wobbled slightly as he entered the bush, but when he saw the two kits in the nest with his mate he steadied himself," they are perfect, you did well honeysuckle." he purred so loud that the kits mewled in their sleep. 'im going to call one, lilykit because she is the color of the water in lily pond. you name the other its a tom." the new mother added. snakefang thought for a long time," his name will be lightkit." honeysuckle looked confused,"i dint understand his fur is such a dark brown why lightkit?" she asked. "my dear he is lightkit because he hass the wormth and light of his mother and the pelt of his father he may have my blue eyes too." snakefang replied.
shootingstar yowled from the tallstone," every cat old enough to be a 'paw come to the a clan meeting!" the whole of starclan was waiting to see what the meeting was for but snakefang already knew he sat with hs kits and mate at the base of tallstone to wait for the naming,
"lightpaw!lilypaw!" the clan howled approval as the kits got their apprentice names."your mentors will be sweetheart and quietmew they will teach you the warrior code and the meaning of being a warrior" the leader dipped his head and the meeting was over.
in the training hollow light paw was doing his battle moves he slashed and batted at the air hoping to impress his mentor sweetheart. "very good" she meowed "you will do better in battle though wont you?" she asked in an amused tone. lightpaw nodded eagerly and caught a leaf out of the air as it fluttered past his nose he pinned it to the ground and shredded it with unsheathed claws.
lightpaw had come back to camp that night with a fat hen in his jaws he had caught his first prey! but no cat noticed because his siter had brought back a big juicy rabbit and two squirrels for the fresh-kill heap! she had also helped drive off a fox1 lilypaw was getting all the attension while ightpaw the dark young apprentice sat alone in his nest eating his hen.
lilypaw still got better everyday when lightpaw was hardly progressing in his few training sessions. he had to face that his sister was just better the other apprentices all told him so anyway so it must be true. lightpaw tried so hard to help his clan he hunted and fought and did all his tasks but he couldn't follow his sisters paw-steps she was fast and strong, it wasn't fair! the poor little 'paw saw neglected and forgotten when the clan made lilypaw into a warrior without him he was the only cat not to cheer for his sister!
lightpaw set out that night he would prove himself to his caln he was determined to become a better warrior then lilyfur would ever be1 on his way out of the camp lightpaw smelled something odd he smelled a smell that was new to him what was it? he followed his nose to find the scent.
