The funeral service of Marshall's dad had taken a toll on everyone. Even watching Crocodile Dundee 3 together hadn't changed that.
Robin looked over to Barney, he had that look on his face again. She'd seen it earlier when they all listened to Marvin Erikson's real last words to Marshall. He looked lost and devastated. Robin quickly looked away, she hated seeing him like that.
So instead of looking at Barney, she watched the snow covered streets go by. The cab ride to their hotel was longer than she had expected. First Marshall had wanted them all to stay at his mothers house, but in the end they had agreed that just Ted should stay there and Barney and Robin would get a hotel room. Well two hotel rooms.
"Barney?" she asked, he turned his head and looked at her.
She contemplated whether or not she should prompt him to talk about what he was thinking right now. To open up to her about his dad, and why this day had such a toll on him. Instead she said,
"I know what will make you feel better."
Barney pulled an eyebrow up, "you are smuggling drugs in that purse too, huh?"
"No…well maybe, but that's not what I meant." She opened her purse and had to dig a second before she found what she was looking for.
"Scherbatsky, are you saying what I think you are saying?" he asked once she had handed him the condom.
She just smiled.
And that's how they ended up in her hotel room, quickly undressing each other. The sex itself was frantic, Barney pinned her to the bed with rough thrusts - it was over within minutes.
Barney rolled off of her, and buried his face in the comforter while trying to catch his breath. Robin was doing the same, briefly wondering if this had been such a good idea after all.
Barney was all grins when he finally looked at her, "best vice girl ever."
Just seeing Barney being back to normal made Robin smile. "Duh?"
They lay there for another minute or so before Barney got up. She watched him put his pants back on, but he left his shirt off, his room was just a few doors over anyways.
"Night Scherbatsky." He came over, and kissed her quickly on the lips.
"Night." She replied.
"Best bro ever." He snickered as he pulled the door shut behind him. Robin reached over to turn off the lights.
No, this hadn't been a mistake. They both needed this to stop them from thinking about their own fathers. Besides, this was Barney. He knew how to do casual, it wasn't going to affect their friendship in any way, and the others would never find out what happened the night of Marvin's funeral.
