Summary: A one-shot poem on the final scene in 'Infamous', under the POV of Clark.
Inspired by Season 8, Episode 'Infamous'; the final Clois scene where Lois is waiting for Clark at the coffee shop, whilst Clark is across the street watching Lois.
Being so close to love, yet staying back – being so far – because of fear. That feeling, of longing, that fear, that melancholy: it all was palpable to such intensity – just as everything Clark- & Lois-related is.
Deserts Apart
There I stood
— Only a lifetime ago —
Thinking of what I could be
Thinking of who I could be
Thinking of the life I could lead
Thinking of the 'what ifs'
Thinking if my courage willed itself more,
That I could be more:
I could be worthy of you.
Had I been strong enough
Had I been brave enough
Had I known what I felt
— And not doubted myself —
Had my valour willed itself more,
If I was more:
I could be worthy of you.
Being
— Two steps back. Three steps forward. —
— Five steps forward. Four steps back. —
Being:
Both sides of the dream
Both sides of the coin
Both sides of the line
Being the strength to will itself more,
Wanting to be more:
I could be worthy of you.
So close;
And yet, so far
An ocean's breadth;
And yet, a millimetre's deviance
Worlds colliding;
And yet, holding station:
Never to meet
Never to love,
Never to merge
Never to hope,
Never to mingle
Never to inspire;
A necessity never being;
Not Yet Anyway.
