I wake up in a cold sweat. Turning my head, I see my sister Katniss, her face twisted as if she's having a bad dream. Of course she is.
Today is the reaping.
My first reaping.
Her fifth.
I slide out of the scratchy blankets and peek out the window on the opposite side of the room. The sun is just barely peeking through the trees of the forest right outside of the fence that circles our district. A fence that I've never been past, though Katniss spends most her time outside of it.
Walking away from the window, I begin to shiver. I decide to lay down with my mother; for some reason, she stops my nightmares. I curl up under her arm and sleep.
It's going to be a big, big, big day.
