Author's Note : Basically this was what I wished would've happened in tonight's E4 First Look (Tuesday 24th July 2012) between Ste and Brendan. I welled up when Cheryl told Ste that Brendan was still in love with him and the shock on Ste's face :') Can't wait for more Stendan.
So this is just a very short one-shot I quickly threw together!

Cheryl : He's still in love with you.
Ste saw Brendan walking towards him and he looked the other way. The last thing he needed today was Brendan especially after what Chez had just told him. He continued walking and as expected, Brendan was calling after him.
'Steven! Hey Steven...How's my sister?'
'How do you think she is, Brendan? It was pretty clear she didn't want to talk to you earlier on. And neither do I. Take the hint.' Ste retaliated.
'I just...what did she say?' Brendan asked. Genuinely sounding worried.
Ste sighed and looked at Brendan with his best annoyed face. 'I shouldn't even be talking to you.'
'What? Why not?' Brendan asked. 'What, Dougie boy gets jealous?' He joked.
'No...Cheryl told me to stay away from you.' Ste spat back.
'She said people around you are getting hurt.' Ste continued when Brendan didn't respond, the pain he was feeling clearly etched onto his face.
'I didn't understand...was confused as to why anyone would think I was still close to you but...' Ste hesitated.
'But what?' Brendan asked eagerly.
'But...' Ste said slowly, knowing he had to tread lightly with the words he was about to say.
'...she said you're still in love with me. And...that makes me a target.' Ste finished.
Brendan suddenly felt double the anger. He didn't realise people still saw that he was in love with this boy. Not only did he have to worry over the safety of Cheryl now, he had to worry about Steven? No. Surely he had pushed the boy away enough? Sampson wouldn't know, he couldnt.
'I...' Brendan stuttered, looking up softly into Ste's eyes. 'I wouldn't let anyone hurt you or Chez. Ever. You do know that right?'
Brendan raised his hand up to Ste's cheek and gently place it there, his thumb just tracing Ste's bottom lip.
'I know. But everyone around you seems to get hurt. In one way or another.' Ste replied, gently shaking his head away from Brendan's hand.
'I know..I know...' Brendan admitted, consumed with guilt. 'I didn't mean for all this to happen! I never thought it would get this far. I just don't know what to do.'
'Just sort it out Brendan. But be careful.' Ste advised, his voice full of concern.
'I will.' Brendan replied.
'Ok...' Ste said, finishing the conversation and started to walk away.
But before he had even taken two steps, Ste heard his name.
'Steven...'
'Yeah?' Ste said as he turned around to look at Brendan.
'You know, Chez was right.' Brendan stated. 'Everything she said is true. And I mean everything.' A small sad forced smile appeared on Brendan's face.
Brendan turned to walk away, but looked at Ste long enough to see Ste's reaction. A bit of shock mixed with confusion.
Ste sighed and turned to head back to the deli whispering to himself 'I know...'
