It was a cold and wet Wednesday around 2pm and Peri was walking absentmindedly to her house; well the house she and her family moved to together just over a year ago, but it wasn't really her home anymore as she lived with Tom and his family.
She had left home after trying to see to Tom and her's baby girl who they had called 'Danielle'; though it seemed Tom was much better with her then she was, he somehow found it neutral and Peri was amazed with how at ease he was and anyone could see from just looking at them that he loved that baby girl to pieces.
She had reached breaking point and she tried telling Tom how she felt a couple of times but he kept telling her 'you'll get it, just give it time, you're her mum'
She couldn't tell Jack and Frankie how she felt because Frankie was hooked; she doted on that baby like it was her own; she felt alone in that flat, like she had no one to talk to and she could feel herself slowly sinking.
She cared for Danielle she really did, but everything felt like hard work, like the time she was bathing Dani on her own and she dropped her, her heart almost stopped as she rushed to get her baby from the submerged water before placing her on a towel on the floor, she then broke down in tears as Dani screamed her head off, but she ignored it, until Tom came in, she gave him a fake smile as she reached for their baby and passed her to him to sort out.
Everyday she watched Tom with their baby and everyday she felt like a failure, but she was doing it for Tom.
Then today happened and she knew she had to get out of there, at least for a bit.
This morning she was woke by the screams of their daughter at 4am, plus every hour or so in the night, she hated it; Tom always got up with Dani and she was grateful, sometimes she watched them together, noticing how effortlessly he cradled her back to sleep.
All the moments that lead to this went though Peri's mind as she got to the village steps hoping the person she wanted wasn't out or at work.
She knew she could just text and the person would be there, it made her think; maybe she had been too harsh on her, because after all Leela was her mum and there was no doubt in her mind that she loved her; she would understand right?
As Peri got to the top of the steps she saw Tom in the distance and a smile came to her lips before quickly falling as she noticed the pram he was pushing, she quickly ducked as Tom's faint voice passed the steps.
Letting out a breath she hadn't realised she was holding she fell against the wall, letting herself slide to the cold, hard ground as she began to cry to herself; she really wished things were different.
After a few moments she got up and walked to the door of the house before shakily raising her hand and knocking.
She was internally begging for Leela to answer as she nervously waited, her tears seemingly unable to stop as she trying to wipe them away but they just kept on falling.
The door suddenly swung open to revel the person she wanted.
"Hey" Peri greeted weakly as her eyes were red and puffy, tear tracks straining her cheeks as the odd few silently fell.
Leela gave her a sympathetic smile before pulling her into a hug without saying a word.
She stroked her daughter's hair, trying to offer her some sort of comfort as she could feel her body shaking in her arms.
Slowly Peri pulled away from the hug and looked at her Mum "I can't do it Mum"
Leela gave a sad smile; this was the first time Peri had called her Mum, though she wished it could be under better circumstances.
