Everything always seemed to be lightened with the ending of dusk, twilight thick in the air as another day died and feel against the darkness. Matthew Williams was always stuck in that black, his mind foggy and mangled against his own unyielding thoughts of himself. He would twist, turn, burn through his own words, playing with them as a smile was pulled up his chapped lips. He felt dead. He felt unwanted; Overlooked by even the stars late at night as sleep refused to come to him. It had even come to the point where a dull numbness would fall over his malnourished body and he could barely stand up straight. Without double checking with himself, he jumped.
The water was murky, dark and clutching. The Canadian allowed himself to be swallowed up, embracing the lack of air and the suffocating darkness. He closed his violet eyes slowly, against the world above and the feelings rushing out towards him. He halted, feeling whatever breath he had left in his throat hitch in surprise. Someone gripped onto his hand. Someone was pulling him back to life. He struggled and failed.
Waking up, his limps felt stiff. Nothing had occurred; nothing was dramatically different and life-changing, nor did he feel a sudden lust for life from his mistake. Scoffing, he groaned, opening his eyes and gasping at the sight before him.
Above him stood a man, eyebrows furrowed, mouth ajar and dripping from ocean water, hair slicked up amazingly enough. Gentle hands took hold of Matthew's cheeks and the man above him smiled, the seemingly icy green eyes softening.
And suddenly it was like he had been living all his life. His heart beat came to him, loud and awake, pounding in his ears. He shivered violently, cried out in pain, cried out as the stars finally came to him and shone up against the darkness like diamonds. Matthew curled up against the stranger, relieving in the heat beat, in the warmth, feeling a significant shadow cast over his own heart against the others.
And just like that, seconds passed. Minutes, hours, days and even months; the stars had blinded Matthew, blinded him against the adulation he felt for the man, and the sudden spring in his step. He tried to find the sound, that one thing that would always thrust him back to reality. That heartbeat that was so enticing and welcoming. Whether it was his or the man's, that was all he needed.
Once upon a time, Matthew Williams was in the dark. The stars, the moon, the light in his life had been blown away from the heartbeat that would never come. But then they all came, tearing through him and leaving him breathless. With an electrifying touch, a greedy little kiss and so much more Matthew became alive. Only around that man did he become eager for the day, did he have his tumbled up words pulled from his mouth without hesitation. And as the couple embraced, their bare chests flushed up against the others, their lips dancing and striving for more flesh to graze upon, Matthew thanked God for the darkness that once enveloped him.
