The pair were like chalk and cheese.
Polar opposites.
But yet, the two were a match made in heaven.
Soul mates.
"I just saw the weirdest thing. Something I didn't think existed".
"What?"
"Love at first sight! Carbo, and the girl from the internet dating sight!"
"Who's a freak, right?"
"No! They took one look at each other and it was like time stood still, like they were the only two people in the universe. There were birds tweeting and violins playing…"
"Maybe I should check".
"No, you might be interrupting something precious!"
"Or something sick, your right".
"Let's go shopping or something".
"When we come home and find a forensic team doing blood splatter analysis..."
"Well then we know I was wrong".
It was safe to say, when Ben and Melissa Rafter returned home that night; they didn't find a forensic team. Or their house marked off with police caution tape (Ben's second though, as they drove towards the nearest shopping centre).
They found their lovesick housemate drooling over Loretta.
They didn't understand what she saw in him. She was pretty and young… and he was Carbo.
Who had scared away potential buyers of the house with his leopard print underwear.
The man who had hauled a waterbed into their bedroom in an attempt to make it more romantic or them.
(They had been horrified when Carbo emerged in his underwear, and had almost gotten seasick on the waterbed.)
And yet, the two were perfect for each other.
While they had been totally convinced they would detest their new housemate (and they had tried), they found it almost impossible.
How could they hate someone so innocent?
Someone who was almost a professor at colour therapy?
Someone who bounced off the walls at Christmas, an almost three week long sugar high?
But the part Ben liked most of all?
Their nickname.
"Guess what her nickname is, Ben? Guess?"
They had tried to guess her nickname. They had hoped that they were wrong.
"It's Retta! Get it? Carboretta!"
And the name had been set in stone.
They were Carboretta, destined to be together forever.
