Tea
John knew that getting Sherlock to agree to eat and sleep regularly was a very tall order, but it didn't stop him from trying. He tried every trick to induce sleep that he had heard of, but was careful not to do it too often lest Sherlock became overly suspicious and cautious whenever John handed him something.
Getting Sherlock to eat was slightly easier, if only for the fact that while he couldn't force Sherlock to sleep, he could actually force-feed the lanky man. He actually tried it once, but it had resulted in a mortally embarrassed John, a very much disgruntled Sherlock, a secretly pleased Mrs. Hudson, an amused Mycroft, and a horrified Lestrade who couldn't look them in the eye for a week afterward, so they had wordlessly agreed not to bring it up ever again. John had also promised himself that he would never attempt it again.
He came close to forcing food down Sherlock's throat multiple times, although he never went through with it, but Sherlock had wisely decided not to test the good doctor, so when afternoon tea rolled by, and John set up a tray of tea and snacks that could probably feed ten hungry children, he simply suffered in silence and ate until John was appeased.
At least the tea John made was brilliant.
