Sam awoke to the persistant cries of her newborn baby. She had managed to talk the landlord into letting her stay in the rundown tenant building for a few days. Looking at the stiff mattress, she assumed that the baby was possibly uncomfortable. She picked the baby up and desparately rocked it, but its crying continued.

"Shut that baby up!" an agitated voice ripped through the night. "Get it out of here!"

Not wanting to get kicked out of her temporary shelter, Sam scrambled out of the building. She tried everything. Singing. Dancing. The baby still cried. Sam then began to shake. She needed a hit of crack which she hadn't had in a while. She glanced from the baby to a box in the ally. She quickly sat the baby down in the box.

"Don't worry, I'll be right back." she whispered as she covered it. She ran to the drug house although she could hear her infant wailing and screeching. A few minutes later all things were forgotten as she finally got her hit.

"Carly." Bobby exclaimed as her daughter walked into the hospital.

"Hey." Carly greeted her as she gave her mom a hug.

"How's everything?" Bobby asked.

"Things are going great. Morgan took his very first step yesterday and Michael made scholar roll again."

"Wow, I'm very proud."

"Yeah. Sonny and I are planning to take them out to a special dinner tonight...I was wondering if you could come?" Carly asked.

"Well...I don't know..." Bobby drifted off as she looked over her shoulder at the Intensive Care Unit.

"Why? What's going on?" Carly asked squinting her eyes. Before Bobby could say anything, they were both interrupted by the shrill cries of a baby.

"Oh." Bobby exclaimed as she ran over towards the room where the crying was coming from.

"Mom?" Carly asked confused as she closely followed by. She watched as Bobby picked up a small baby that was hooked to IV's.

"This baby has been here for over a week. She was found in a garbage can. We haven't been able to find her mother but we know that her mother was a crack addict." Bobby informed Carly as she rocked the screaming infant.

Carly's heart softened as she wrapped her finger around the baby's tiny wrist. "Who would leave such a sweet little thing like this out in the cold like that?" she cooed.

"I'm afraid we'll have to put her up for foster care soon. I doubt there are really any families out there that can support this kind of baby."

"I'm sure someone will take her in." Carly replied as she soothed the crying baby.

Bobby shook her head in disagreement. "I doubt it."

There was a long pause as Bobby watched Carly interact with the little girl. "Why....Why don't you take her?"

"What?" Carly exclaimed.

"Oh come on. How nice would it be for Michael and Morgan to have a baby sister."

"But this isn't my baby. Her mother could come back for her any time." Carly argued.

"Exactly. Which means it will be temporary and even if she doesn't come back, you can always send her to another foster home." Bobby tried to persuade her. "Come on, look at her eyes." she pointed at the beautiful mocha eyes.

"Fine." Carly sighed. "But if Sonny tells me he doesn't want this you're going to have to find another home for her.''

"Wonderful, I'll call social services to get the papers." Bobby said handing Carly the baby.

Carly sighed, hoping this decision wouldn't be one that she would regret. "What should I call you?" she asked the baby. "Madison? Emily? Actually, you look like a Gabrielle to me." Carly smiled as the baby cooed. "Gabrielle Corinthos. Perfect."
